Pick A Team

In different towns and villages across Scotland, there’s a tradition: once a year the whole population divides into Uppies and Doonies, and everyone plays a town-wide ball game.

The New Year Games is drawing on this tradition – so to play, you’ll have to pick a side. Are you loyal to the Red Stag of the Doonies, or the Silver Eagle of the Uppies?

Uppies

If you live somewhere a bit north, you’re an Uppie. North island of New Zealand, north London, north of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh – just somewhere a bit northerly.

The Uppies’ totem is the adventurous silver eagle, and the colours are silver, blue and purple.

Doonies

If you live somewhere a bit south, you’re a Doonie. South of France, south of England, south of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh – don’t worry, we won’t check!

The Doonies’ totem is the brave red stag, and the colours are red, orange and pink.
